How to Apply for Federal Loans at Princeton

  1. Complete the 2008-09 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is used to determine your contribution toward your educational expenses. The FAFSA is available on-line or in hard copy from any U.S. high school or college. NOTE: You must list Princeton’s Federal School Code on FAFSA. Princeton’s code is 002627.
  2. Complete the Preliminary Loan Application and return it to the Office of Graduate Student Life, 111 Clio Hall, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544-0255.
  3. Submit a signed copy of your 2007 Tax Return to the Office of Graduate Student Life. If you were not required to file a federal tax return, submit a signed statement indicating your sources and amounts of income during calendar year 2007.
  4. Complete the Statement of Selective Service Compliance and return it to the Office of Graduate Student Life, 111 Clio Hall, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544-0255. 
  5. A.  First-Time Borrowers:
  • The ‘First-time Federal Stafford Loan Borrowers’ section provides information on how you can select a Stafford Loan lender and apply for the loan.  As a first-time borrower, it is your responsibility to apply for your Stafford Loan with a lender you select
  • The brochure ‘Financing Options for Graduate Students: 2008-09 (pdf)’ provides information about various loan options available to Princeton graduate degree candidates.
  • After you have reviewed your rights and responsibilities as a Stafford Loan borrower, you must complete and return the ‘Federal Stafford Loan Certification (pdf)’ form to our office.  We will be unable to process your loan until you return the signed certification form.
